Mayor belatedly accepts report

Lateness prevented new councillor Reynold Macpherson from tabling 'seven concerns” yesterday over an Audit signing off of council performance.

Reynold told the first full meeting of the Rotorua Lakes Council he had earlier abstained from voting on a summary of a council report to the year ended June 30 this year.

But he did gain a concession from meeting chair, mayor Steve Chadwick and the council's chief executive Geoff Williams.

Steve told Reynold she and Geoff would accept his report – the seven concerns were not made public – though the council report had been 'signed off”.

Reynold had abstained from voting at an earlier meeting post the October 12 local body elections because of insufficient time and 'because I had not had the capacity to do a systematic appraisal”.

Since he was able to make an assessment.

The concerns 'are of such a nature that I think they'd be best if I could refer to you [Steve] and the chief executive to deal with some urgency because as I understand it the report is going to be signed off.

'There's a letter of representation statement of compliance and I would urge these matters be considered prior to those signatures being made … or is it already despatched?”

Mayor Steve Chadwick says that is 'the form”.

'It was tabled and voted on and you're rather late, but you'll know next time; the letters have gone … we have to get that report to Audit to within a timeframe.

'So, you're out of that timeframe and I think the opportunity is well and truly passed.”

Steve says she will accept Reynold's document so she and Geoff Williams can take account of it.

Reynold: 'Splendid.”
