Police plan to recover White Island dead tomorrow

Police have confirmed they plan to plan to recover the bodies from Whakaari / White Island tomorrow.

Police Deputy Commissioner John Tims, says, 'I can now confirm that we are finalising a plan to recover the bodies from Whakaari / White Island tomorrow morning.”

'Families will be briefed on the operation at 4.30pm”

An eruption occurred at Whakaari/White Island at 2.11pm on Monday and eight people have been confirmed dead from the incident.

A total of 47 people were on the island at the time of the eruption, eight people are still missing on the island, 27 are in hospitals around the country, and three have been discharged.

Police say there are no signs of survivors on Whakaari/White Island after the eruption.
