Two election returns sought

Two Rotorua candidates have failed to file expenses returns for the 2019 local body elections.

While several candidates filed their returns several days after the 55-day deadline following confirmation of the October 12 poll, two have so far not responded to confirm their expenses.

Declarations have not been confirmed from Whare (Bam) Preston (Rotorua Lakes councillor) and Rachel Clark, who stood for the Rotorua Rural Community Board.

Both were unsuccessful.

The Rotorua Lakes Council says its electoral officer, Warwick Lampp, has been informed.

'Mr Lampp has contacted these candidates requesting that they complete and forward their electoral expenses returns,” an RLC spokeswoman says in response to Rotorua Now inquiries.

Candidates can be fined up to $1000 for filing late returns.

Though the spokeswoman says no fines have been imposed to date.

That timeframe was from and including October 17 when final election night figures were confirmed to Tuesday, December 10, 2019.

Two candidates Sandra Kai Fong (successful) and Bill Hedges (unsuccessful) filed well within 55-day period.

Neither had expenses to declare.
