A cluster of quakes hit the Bay of Plenty

A cluster of earthquakes have been detected in the Bay of Plenty region this morning.

GeoNet have reported on their website and social media, that there have been earthquakes detected in Tauranga, Whakatane, Opotiki, Rotorua and Murupara.

The GeoNet has tweeted saying there was a 3.6 earthquake that caused light shaking near Rotorua.

GeoNet have also tweeted saying there have been other earthquakes that have caused weak shaking near Murupara.

According to the GeoNet website, Tauranga experienced two earthquakes at around 4.30am, Whakatane experienced two earthquakes, one at 2.03am and 3.30am, and Opotiki experienced one earthquake at 1.52am.

Rotorua also experienced two earthquakes this morning, at around 6.30am.

Murupara have experienced more than 42 earthquakes in the past 10 hours dating back to 11.16pm on Tuesday night.
