The Rotorua Night Market and Rotorua Farmers Market are suspended until further notice following the Government's announcement that all events and public gatherings of 500 or more people should be cancelled.

The Government has said it will regularly review this decision so we will keep the community up to date about any changes.

Rotorua Lakes Council is working with local event organisers and community groups following the Government's directive to cancel all events and public gatherings of 500 or more people.

The Ministry of Health says the move is an effective measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

There are a number of large events planned for the next few months and Council is working with event organisers and the community to help put in place arrangements for cancellations or postponements.

From this week both Rotorua Night Market and Rotorua Farmers Market will be suspended until further notice. Council is working with stallholders to update them about the decision.

The Ministry has advised that this decision will be regularly reviewed and Council will continue to following the advice of health authorities in relation to COVID-19.

'We understand that this is a difficult and stressful time for our community however, at this time we need to follow the advice provided by the Ministry of Health to keep everyone safe,” says Council Operations Manager Jocelyn Mikaere.

'If you are an event organiser or are planning a public gathering we encourage you to first contact the Ministry of Health. If you have questions about cancelling or postponing your event our staff are on board to help you.”
