A Rotorua doctor has pleaded guilty to one charge of careless, or inconsiderate driving, causing the death of an 87-year-old motorcycle rider.

Blaithin Patricia Page, 47, entered the plea at Rotorua District Court this week.

The charges stemmed from an incident on September 25 last year which claimed the life of Francisca Maria Hawkes-Buchanan.

The police summary of facts revealed Blaithin was driving a Nissan X-Trail on Rotorua's Rangiuru St at around 7.25am on her way to Rotorua Hospital.

Weather conditions were described as overcast with isolated patches of drizzle.

She approached a T intersection, controlled by a give way sign, pulling out onto Arawa St "and into the path of the deceased who had no time to react".

"The deceased was knocked from her motorcycle and slid to the other side of the road," the summary said.

She later died of her injuries.

At the scene, Page told police she "didn't see the victim coming".

She will be sentenced on May 21 this year.
