Rotorua residents and district councillors will find out how the nationwide lockdown has affected the city's $40 million Lakefront Redevelopment at a meeting of the Rotorua Lakes Council tomorrow.

While the agenda is relatively light at just 22 pages, councillors will also hear and discuss a presentation regarding the progress of the council's Covid-19 recovery plans and updates to the terms and conditions for use of the central city parking building.

"The updates will enable a number of practical enforcement measures to be implemented within the newly re-configured parking building and ensure that Council is meeting its legal obligations to users," the agenda item states.

If agreed to by council, the changes would see reduced fees for long term parking arrangements.

"The Parking Building has recently seen technology upgrades to replace ageing and unreliable equipment and is now runs with license plate reading cameras, a ticketless entry and exit system and an automatic barrier arm," a council report states.

"The layout of the building is also being changed to offer preference parking on the lower floors to those that wish to enter into a longer-term commitment with Council.

"Causal parking will be primarily situated on the top floor. This is similar to many other parking buildings nationwide.

"...the pricing structure was also reviewed and now contains reduced parking rates and permit options to attract long term users in particular.

"This was aimed at improving utilisation of this facility which in turn will assist in easing on-street parking pressures, particularly around CBD worker parking.

"To date, use of the parking building has never reached its full potential.

"The recent upgrades and redesigned layout are anticipated to help make the Parking Building a more attractive parking option particularly for CBD workers," the report states.

Before entering into the confidential and pubically excluded part of the meeting councillors will be briefed by staff on the Lakefront Redevelopment Project.

The meeting is open to the public and will be held in the Council Chambers from 9.30am. It will also be live-streamed, with links to coverage on the council's website - www.rotorualakescouncil.nz.
