Heavy rain and gale southerlies forecast for parts of central New Zealand are expected to ease today.
The MetService has issued a strong wind watch for the Bay of Plenty.
"A low east of the North Island should continue moving away to the east today, and the southerly flow affecting central and northern parts of New Zealand should ease. Watches and Warnings for wind and rain remain in force for parts of central New Zealand.
"On Wednesday, a front is forecast to move onto the South Island from the west, preceded by a strong north to northwest flow, and followed by strong westerlies.
"Strong Wind Watches and Warnings are now in force for eastern and southern parts of the South Island."
The MetService advises people to stay up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made, or further Watches or Warnings are added.

Forecast: Southerly winds may approach severe gale at times.
Area: Taranaki
Valid: 3 hours from 10am to 1pm Tuesday
Forecast: Southerly winds may approach severe gale at times.
Area: Canterbury Plains including Christchurch
Valid: 12 hours from 11am to 11pm Wednesday
Forecast: Northwest winds may approach severe gale at times, especially about the foothills and higher parts of Banks Peninsula.
