Suspicious death in Kawerau under investigation

Update 11.37am: Whakatane Police are investigating a suspicious death of a man in Kawerau this morning.

"The man was located injured at the intersection of Newall St and Whittaker St at about 7.10am," says Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Wilson.
"He was pronounced dead at the scene and is yet to be formally identified."
Police are working to determine the circumstances of his death.
"We are looking to speak with anyone who saw what happened, or may have information that could be of use," says Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Wilson.
Information can be passed on to Police by calling 105 and quoting job number P044952398.
Information can also be passed on anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Earlier 7.55am Police report that they are currently in attendance at an incident in Kawerau.

Emergency services are at the scene of the incident at the intersection of Whitaker St and Newall St in Kawerau.

Police report that the road is currently blocked.
