A new cadetship is being introduced to give those working in the distribution industry a chance to advance their career.

The distribution cadetship, which is a version of Toi Ohomai's New Zealand Certificate in Distribution, is designed for students who have recently left school and are working in the industry.

Toi Ohomai says the course has been created to support the Bay of Plenty's local logistics industry.

This new initiative will have its first cohort begin in February 2021, and will be taught out of the Toi Ohomai logistics training centre hub on Truman Lane in Tauranga.

Topics the course covers includes distribution operations, inventory control and stock management, picking and dispatch and more.

Transport and logistics academic leader Celine Verkuylen says this course is perfect for the next generation of young professionals, who are looking to grow their careers in the industry.

'Our new distribution cadetship is aimed at school leavers to under 25-year-olds. Providing flexible learning and the opportunity to earn while you study.

'With plenty of jobs available in the industry, it's the perfect time to start the learning journey and support the local region.”

By completing the course students will have the know-how and skills required to be an important member in the logistics industry. It will also give them the opportunity to undertake further study and enhance their career opportunities.
