Forest fairies have been taking over a grotto in the Redwoods Forest this Easter, surprising and delighting the young and old alike.

The NightLights evening light show experience amongst the redwoods at Whakarewarewa Forest in Rotorua has fairies lit up and frolicking around the forest floor.

The experience amongst the 118-year-old towering trees is connecting children with nature in a fresh way that ignites their imagination.

The magical wonderland comes to life by night with the Redwoods Nightlights Treewalk taking people up above the forest floor into the gentle giants, transporting them into a captivating world of colour and light, where forest and fantasy come alive.

The experience features 30 exquisite lanterns designed by world-renowned designer and sustainability champion David Trubridge. Floating between 9-20 metres above the forest floor, this award-winning, eco-tourism walk is 700 metres long, spans across 28 suspension bridges and 27 platforms and takes about 40 minutes to complete.

The award-winning, eco-tourism walk is suitable for families and accessible for all who can walk unaided, and there are also purpose-built baby strollers available free for guests to use.

Other popular places to visit with family in Rotorua include Hannahs Bay on the shore of Lake Rotorua. It is surrounded by a kahikatea forest and the beach is used for swimming. There is a mobility playground, horse bridle trail, dog exercise areas, open spaces for recreational activities and play, and a wheelchair-accessible wetland walkway.

Although Rotorua Museum is closed, the surrounding historic Government Gardens are open for all to explore.
