Two Bay of Plenty families have made it to the semi-finals in this year's season of the XVenture Family Challenge.

In semi-final one which will air Sunday April 21, Rotorua family Team Hemana will take on another New Zealand team and two Australian teams.

In this episode there will be special guest judge who the teams worked with to create and deliver a music challenge.

The special judge is Grammy winner Eliot Kennedy who has worked with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, The Spice Girls, Boyzone, and S Club 7.

The music challenge is just one of three challenges the teams will face in Sunday's episode.

The second semi-final features Team Samuel-Murray from Matakana Island which airs on Sunday April 28.

In this episode it features the Tauranga family who won the series last year, who delivers a unique Hip Hop challenge to the teams where the song is a remix version of series one theme song Treasure.

The remix was done by Tauranga's Levi Williams who won the opportunity to have his remix featured as part of a nationwide songwriting competition.

'It's been such a wonderful experience spending time with families from all parts of Australia and New Zealand,” says XVenture Family Challenge series creator and director, Mike Conway.

'Our production team experienced first-hand how these family teams evolved over the course of the challenges. Improved communication, collaboration and most importantly trust were at the heart of their transition.”

Team Hemana from Rotorua is also helping promote a competition that is running alongside the TV show.

All you need to do to enter the competition is to check out the clip from Team Hemana promoting the competition and then have a go yourself.

In a group of four, choose a song either written or co-written by Eliot Kennedy.

Practice the song but focus on the chorus.

Make a landscape video recording, making sure to first introduce your team members and where you are from. Then play and sing along to your song.
