UPDATE, 3:21pm: One person is seriously injured following a two car crash on State Highway 5.

Police are at the scene of the incident which occurred near Ngatira, South Waikato District.

Another person has received minor injuries.

'A tow was being arranged for the vehicles involved,” says a Police spokesperson.

Earlier, 1:48pm: Police are responding to a crash on State Highway 5.

A reader has contacted SunLive saying the crash is west of Rotorua on State Highway 5 between Tirau and Rotorua.

'I have been sitting at a standstill for half an hour, I've seen two fire trucks leaving the scene but I'm not close enough to see what's going on.”

They say traffic is backed up all the way past Maraeroa Road.
