Wellbeing Budget tour in Rotorua

Angie Warren-Clark and Tamati Coffey.

Two Labour List MPs have promulgated the effects of the Wellbeing Budget signalled on May 30 amid leaks of colander proportions.

Waiariki MP Tamati Coffey and Bay of Plenty Labour list MP Angela Warren-Clark were in town on Friday to explain how millions of budgeted money was being spread in their respective electorates.

They were addressing a small gathering of around 30 at the Whakarewrewa rugby clubrooms.

Angela and Tamati talked of the benefits of free health care for all and how money was being spent into various areas which they said until now had not considered by previous governments. Angela says the budget was 'transformational”.

In mental health, Angela said 'hand on heart”, funds will not only go into DHBs and PHOs, but also into Hauora health. There was 'real” support to help Maori, she said, responding to a question.

Increasing people's incomes would go towards health benefits, too, she said.

The MPs' message focused on new services for mental health, a family package of $320million and a start-up fund of $300m.

Angela said that they realised money was not everything, nor were they 'tinkering” around the edges. She said it was building towards a productive nation.
