The Long Mile Road upgrade is progressing through winter, says Rotorua Lakes Council.

"Recently we have received several questions about the kerbing in these photographs which has been constructed on the Scion side of Long Mile Road," says the council.

"We'd like to reassure you that once work is complete the road surface will be lifted 100mm to meet the level of these kerbs so there will be a flat surface to drive over. This area is being transformed into 41 new car parks as detailed in the image below."

The new car parks will be extra-long (5.8m) to allow for unloading of dogs, prams, bike racks, etc without being in the way of oncoming traffic.

There will also be a 2m wide footpath backing onto the parks, so if you reverse into the car park you will have that space for unloading as well.

"Once work is complete parking capacity will remain as it currently is, just with more formalised car parks.

"As part of this work, improvements are also being made to stormwater drainage in the area."
