A Rotorua family is appealing for any information about a pounamu stolen from Kauae Cemetery.

In a post on Facebook, Turene Jones is reaching out to anyone who may know who took the pounamu.

'We don't know exactly when but someone stole the pounamu from my brother's gravesite at Kauae Cemetery in Rotorua.

'If by some miracle, anyone happens to see it or someone with it, my whanau and I would really appreciate it being returned to us.

'My brother's partner had it custom made for him so it is one of a kind. It was held down by liquid nails so someone obviously went to a lot of trouble to steal it.”

People with information about the stolen pounamu can contact Turene via Facebook or can pass on information to their nearest police station.

'To the people who stole the pounamu, thanks for breaking our hearts.”

Information can also be given to the police's 105 number or anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.
