Work will soon be underway to increase parking facilities at Puketawhero Park.

In total 90 new parks will be created at the park, with 70 being added to the existing car park which can be accessed off Vaughan Road. The other 20 will be closer to the new play space, with access from Te Ngae Road.

The project will also see some changes on Te Ngae Road including a central island ensuring access to an from the play space car park is left turn only.

'Preliminary work has already started with the main work starting on August 19,” says the Rotorua Lakes Council website.

'There will be some disruption to motorists on Te Ngae Road while this work is being carried out.

'The project should take about three months to complete and once finished will provide much needed additional parking to the park.”

In addition to the extra carparking, council is installing competition quality lights on field four which will result in more available training space, especially during peak winter hours.

The Supply and Demand Study completed in 2018 highlighted a shortfall in training spaces in the city, especially lit fields that can be utilised at night. The lights at Puketawhero is one answer to this issue and more training facilities will continue in 2020.
