Ex-staffer to stand for trust

Alison Perrin.

Alison Perrin has been nominated for one of six positions on the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust.

Alison, who retired in April last year after 15 years as the trust's assessor of requests for grants to the community, is one of three new names for six places.

One vacancy occurred with the death of educator/entertainer Beatrice Yates.

Rather than fill the vacancy with either a new election or a first cab off the rank procedure, the trust plugged along with five elected members to the end of the term.

Paulene Walsh, whose husband Patrick is the principal at John Paul College, is another to chance her arm.

Hasmukh (Hari) Chhagan, a respected member of the Indian community in Rotorua has also been nominated.

Stewart Edward, the trust's chairman, has confirmed he will stand for re-election.

One trust long-serving trustee, Sandra Kai Fong, has confirmed she will not stand, opting instead for the jostle for a seat on the Rotorua Lakes Council.

Trust nominations close on September 27.

The elections will be held on November 23.
