Welcome Bay residents woke to early morning fog on Saturday as mist and early cloud covered patches across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions.
WeatherWatch weather analyst Aaron Wilkinson says that the Bay of Plenty, Waikato, Auckland and Northland regions would experience early cloud before becoming mostly sunny.
“There may be early mist and fog patches about some inland areas,” says Aaron. “Isolated showers will develop about Northland in the afternoon, some become heavy then clearing in the evening. Also light southwesterly winds.”
Aaron reports that these regions are expected to have a high during the day of 18-19 degrees.
“The low west of the South Island will weaken on Sunday as a ridge starts to have more influence over the country extending out from an anticyclone to the south.”
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning low cloud or fog then sunny spells, may be a light shower or two in the morning otherwise mainly dry. Light winds.
Eastern North Island
Morning sun then cloud increases from afternoon, isolated showers possible from afternoon mainly inland about hills / ranges. Easterlies develop. Gisborne and East Cape has morning patchy rain then some sun breaks through, isolated afternoon showers develop possibly heavy then easing later in the evening.
Morning light showers then dry areas developing in the afternoon, a chance of sun breaking through after midday otherwise mostly cloudy. Southerlies.
Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly cloudy for Marlborough, there may be a shower or two mainly from afternoon. Light east to southeast winds. Nelson has morning sun then some cloud from afternoon, the odd shower possible about the ranges from afternoon, light winds then afternoon northerlies.
Mostly cloudy with the odd drizzle patch, areas north of Banks Peninsula may be fairly dry in the morning. Southwesterly winds.

Southland & Otago
A mostly cloudy day, patchy light rain or showers clear early afternoon about Southland, not clearing Otago till later in the day. Southeasterly winds.
