Pair killed in SH1 crash named

Police can now confirm the names of the two men who died in a crash on SH1 south of Tokoroa on Tuesday.

They are 47-year-old Yuezhong Wang and 48-year-old Weiguo Xi, both from Auckland.

Police extend sympathies to their families and friends, says a police spokesperson.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the crash."

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash on State Highway 1, near Galaxy Road, in Tokoroa around 1pm on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson says two people died and three others sustained serious injuries in the crash.

Two Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopters, the TECT Rescue Helicopter and Greenlea Rescue Helicopter were dispatched to the scene to fly injured patients to hospital.

'The crews from the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter and TECT Rescue Helicopter were first helicopters on the scene,” says a spokesperson for the rescue helicopter.

'The Greenlea Rescue Helicopter Intensive Care Paramedics Nigel Bryant, Graeme Harvey, and Tony More provided initial care to critical patients, alongside road ambulance crews.

'Onboard TECT Rescue Helicopter Intensive Care Paramedic Dave Harrison assessed a female patient in serious condition who was transported by road to Waikato Hospital.
