With last year's Seeka Kiwifruit Cup Day cancelled because of Covid-19, punters will be greeted with top quality fields for the 8 race programme at Racing Tauranga on Saturday.

Consistent mare, Pop Star Princess will line up in the Listed Team Wealleans Tauranga Classic as she looks to add further black-type to her record before her likely retirement in spring.

The Fred and Lindsay Cornege trained six-year-old has won nine of her 38 starts, with a further 11 placings, including the Rotorua Stakes two-starts back.

It's a quality field with the Mark Brosnan trained Supreme Heights likely to be a favourite as the five-year-old bay mare has only been unplaced three times in 21 starts, which includes eight wins.

Alan Sharrock is venturing North with London Express and another expected to feature is Cherry Lane, winner of its last two starts. Trainer, Nicholas Bishara has been enjoying a fine run of form with his horses.

Cherry Lane with top jockey Lisa Allpress on board will be looking to add to her 8 wins.

Local trainer Jim Pender has Nasha Riva resuming after a four month break, however, four of her five wins have come at Tauranga Race Course.

The Graham Richardson trained Paisley Park may be the top weight but will also be well favoured along with Divine Duke who won over 2200 meters three weeks back and has also been a winner at Tauranga.

Last year the Seeka Kiwifruit Cup was postponed from June to August and then run behind closed doors because of Covid-19 restrictions.

The Craig and Shaun Phelan trained Junior was the victor and will again line up for the 2100 meter race.

The track will probably be a Heavy 11 after more than 100 millimetres of rain last week but it has dried out somewhat this week and is looking in top order.

First race is timed to go just after midday with the last race at 4.15pm.

Entry to the course is free of charge.
