Update, 2.19pm:  Due to a serious crash reported to emergency services on State Highway 36, the road is closed between Pyes Pa Rd and Oropi Gorge Rd.

Allow extra time for a detour or avoid the area, says an NZTA Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

For southbound traffic use SH29A, turn right onto Oropi Rd and turn right onto Oropi Gorge Rd to join back on SH36.

For Northbound Traffic turn right onto Oropi Gorge Rd, turn left onto Oropi Rd, left onto SH29A to join back to SH36.

Earlier, 1.05pm: Emergency services are attending the scene of a serious crash on State Highway 36/Pyes Pa Road which is now closed.

"The two vehicle-crash was reported at 12.47pm," says a Police spokesperson.

"Initial indications are there are serious injuries."

Detours are in place, and motorists are advised to expect delays.
