Emergency services are attending the scenes of two serious vehicle crashes in the Waikato.

State Highway 26, Motumaoho and State Highway 31, Otorohanga are both closed following crashes earlier this morning.

"Initial indications are there are serious injuries in both incidents," says a Police spokesperson.

Detours are in place, and motorists are advised to expect delays.

SH 26 Morrinsville to Hamilton is closed between Piako Rd and Harbottle Rd, says an NZTA Waka Kotahi spokesperon.

"Please follow the detour and allow extra travel time."

Southbound traffic detour on SH26 is via Piako Rd, turn left on SH1B then right back onto SH26. Northbound traffic detour is in reverse.

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised of both crashes.
