Police are now able to release the names of the two people who died in a crash in Taupo last week.

Jeannine Ball, 51, of Reporoa and Lynda Ball, 76, of Taupo died at the scene of the two-vehicle crash on Broadlands Road on January 5, says a police spokesperson.

"Police’s thoughts are with their family and loved ones.

"The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation."

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash.

People with information are encouraged to contact their nearest police station.

Alternatively, information can also be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.

Non-emergency information can be phoned into the police's 105 number.
