A woman charged with the ill treatment of a vulnerable adult who resorted to drinking his own urine before he died has been denied bail.

Annie Mathews appeared at the Rotorua District Court via audio visual link on Tuesday seeking electronically monitored bail while she awaits sentencing, a request denied by judge Tony Snell.

Annie, and co-accused and partner Jovander Terry, entered guilty pleas to a range of ill treatment charges in April relating to Bruce Rangitutia, Jovander's whangai brother.

The summary of facts revealed that Bruce, 55, endured a catalogue of suffering in his final years under the noses of Waikato DHB, social workers and police.

Jovander entered a guilty plea to one charge, that of ill treatment of a vulnerable adult, the particulars being failure to feed and seek medical care.

Annie's charges are also under the umbrella of ill treatment of a vulnerable adult, namely failing to take steps to protect Bruce from Terry and failing to seek medical care.

The pair set to be sentenced on September 23.
